Less feelings, more money

Money is a tool, not a trap

Money is a tool. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yet, most people treat it like a god. They fear losing it. They feel unworthy when they don’t have enough. They chase it like their life depends on it.

But here’s the truth: money doesn’t care about you.

It’s not emotional. It’s not personal. It’s just a tool.

Detach emotionally from money, and you’ll gain true control over it.

Insight

Emotionally detaching from money: easier said than done.

Since childhood, we’ve been programmed to see money as more than what it is.

Parents fight over it. Schools don’t teach us about it. Society glorifies having it and shames those who don’t.

We attach emotions to money, and those emotions control us. Fear. Anxiety. Guilt. Even pride.

But what happens when you see money for what it really is? Just a means to an end.

Do you cry when your blender breaks? No. You know you can get another one.

Money should be the same. It’s not rare. It’s not magical. It’s not who you are.

The most important skill for getting rich is getting your mind right. You must detach your emotions from money and treat it as a tool.

Naval Ravikant

The moment you detach emotionally from money, you stop making desperate decisions. You stop chasing. You stop fearing.

Instead, you start using money like a tool. To build. To invest. To create.

The wealthy don’t panic when they lose money. They don’t see it as a piece of their soul disappearing. They see it as a resource that flows.

Detach. Control. Multiply.

“Money is essential for survival, so how am I supposed to not to care about it?”

You should care about money. It doesn't mean you should become emotionally attached to it. Those are two different things.

We need money to do many essential things in this material existence. It shapes multiple areas in our lives. For that exact reason it’s more reasonable to make money decisions based on logic, not emotions.

Take the stoic route. You should find happiness during struggle or comfort. During peace or war. During financial abundancy or bankruptcy.

This level of emotion control is not easy to achieve. You will need to reprogram your self-image to detach your value from your financial gain - something deeply ingrained in us. You will need to not care about people’s opinion of you based on your financial situation - rather if it’s good or bad. Don’t be prideful if you are financially abundant or ashamed if you are going through monetary hardships.

Actionable Step

How do you start detaching from money?

Here's a list of actions that you can try to incorporate in your relationship with money.

  1. Stop seeing money as something that defines you. You are not your bank balance.

  2. Shift focus from spending to investing. Money is a tool to create more.

  3. When dealing with money, aim to make decisions based on logic, not emotions.

  4. Study wealthy mindsets. Notice how they treat money like a resource, not an obsession.

  5. Reframe losses. Losing money is not failure; it’s a lesson. Learn and move forward.

Beyond all, understand that money is infinite. You can lose it all and get it all back - or even more. There’s always money to be made and opportunities to make money. If you prepare yourself and provide value to the world, money will come naturally to you. It’s that simple.
